Every night a major question in most households is: “What is to be made for Breakfast tomorrow?” At such times, if we remember this Tomato Oats dish, one can relax. Breakfast sufficient for three people can be made in just 10 minutes’ time! .

Masala Oats is strong and spicy and has a tangy sourness. Children are quite reluctant to eat Oats cooked in milk. It’s so boring for them. At such times Tomato Masala Oats is a very good alternate option. This is a favourite recipe of mine. When I feel like eating something light at dinner time, or if my taste buds are bland, I make Tomato Oats for myself. This dish is flavourful and is immensely enjoyable by all. I have prepared this recipe in a simple way using very few ingredients. This can be prepared very easily even by bachelors. Tips

Tomato:

• Sour and ripe tomatoes are ideal for this recipe. If the tomatoes are not sour,you may squeeze in a little lemon juice.

A few more ideas:

• If you are planning to eat the oats immediately while hot, you can cook it to thick consistency. However it is better to keep it to a thin and flowing consistency if you are packing it in the lunchbox. If it is packed in a thick consistency, it tends to become like a thick cold lump.

A few more ways to cook Tomato Masala Oats:

• Some days you may follow my recipe being shared here. Another time, you may boil diced carrot and sweet corn till soft, and then and add diced tomato

• At the end of my recipe I have added black pepper powder and garam masala. You may add a little Sambhar Powder. It tastes very nice.

• Another method is to boil Tur Dal, Tomato, salt, Heeng in a cooker. Then Boil oats with a little tamarind juice, Rasam powder and turmeric. Now mix the boiled dal, Curry Leaf powder and a little water. Cook for a while to make tasty Oats Rasam Rice. You may add ghee based seasoning to enhance the flavour.

Instant Tomato Masala Oats

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3 Tomatoes (diced)
  • 1 Onion (Finely cut)
  • 2 Twing Curry Leaf
  • 1 Cup Roasted Oats
  • 250-300 ml Water
  • Salt (as per taste)
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic Paste
  • 1 tbsp Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 tbsp Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Garam Masala
  • . Kothimir (Coriander Leaves) (Small Bunch)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pan and put in onion and Curry leaves. Fry till onion starts to change colour.
  2. Add Salt, ginger garlic paste,turmeric and fry well.
  3. Now add the diced ripe tomato and cook till it becomes pulpy.
  4. Add water and bring to boil on high flame. Add chilli powder and oats carefully to the boiling water. Keep mixing briskly so that lumps are not formed.
  5. Leave it on medium flame till the water is absorbed. (Look at the tips for clear instructions about the consistency etc). Before taking the pan down. Add pepper powder, garam masala and chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.
