Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice (Soaked for an hour)
  • 6 Cups Water
  • 1 Tomato
  • 50 gm Tamarind (Extracted after soaking in hot water)
  • Salt
  • 1.5 tbsp Rasam Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Green Gram (Soaked for an hour)
  • 2 tbsp Red Gram (Soaked for an hour)
  • Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • 2 Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green Chillies Slit
  • 2 Curry leaves sprigs
  • Coriander Chopped – A small bunch

Instructions

  1. Add soaked Rice, Water, Tomato, Green Gram, Red Gram and add 4 ½ cups of water and cook to 5 whistles on a medium flame.
  2. Add Salt and Rasam Powder to the Tamarind extract and set aside.
  3. Add the Tamarind extract to the cooked Rasam Sadam and mash it a little. After it is cooked a little more, remove from the fire.
  4. Melt Ghee for the seasoning, add all the ingredients and add it to the Rasam Sadam.
