Ingredients

  • 1 cup Wheat Semolina
  • Tamarind – Size of a Lemon
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Ghee/Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Black Gram
  • 1 tsp Bengal Gram
  • 3 Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onions
  • 2 Green Chillies Chopped
  • Asafoetida – A pinch
  • 2 Sprigs Curry leaves
  • 1/4 cup Peas
  • Jaggery – Small ball
  • Green Coriander – A little

Instructions

  1. Melt Oil/Ghee and roast Wheat Semolina on a low flame until it turns white.
  2. Heat Oil and add Mustard Seeds, Black Gram, Bengal Gram, Cumin Seeds, Red Chillies, Asafoetida, Green Chillies one by one and fry well.
  3. After the seasoning is done, add Onions and let them cook to soft. Then add Peas and cover, and cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add 3 Cups of Water to the Lemon Sized Tamarind and extract the juice. Add the juice, Salt, and some Jaggery to the Onions and let it simmer on a high flame.
  5. In the simmering juice, add the roasted Semolina, cover and cook for 15 -18 minutes on a medium flame. Keep mixing in between.
  6. Sprinkle Green Coriander and remove it from the fire.
