Dal Mudi Mixture | Dal Moth

If you are looking for a perfect snack for the evenings, this Dal moth will be an ideal snack. Made from Red gram and mixture with Cumin and Chilly powder, it makes for a tasty and healthy snack and one feels like eating more and more.

In Northern states it is called Dal moth but in Southern India it is called Agra mixture. The method of preparing is the same though.This Red lentils weren't not available much in South, but now it is available widely.

It is very easy to make this snack. Soaked lentils are fried and mixed with Bengal flour mixture.Though it is a simple recipe, you will get a perfect taste if you follow the simple tips.

Tips

Red Lentils:

  1. This Lentil belongs to the family of Red gram.This is usually used in Kichidi, removing it's skin.They appear like Horse gram.

2.Wash the Lentils thoroughly and soak for at least 10 hours. Strain the soaked gram in a strainer for at least 30 minutes. It will become moisture free and will be easy to fry.

Frying Tips:

1.You have to patiently fry the Gram in a medium flame for some time and fry on a high flame to make it golden brown.

For the Mixture:

  1. Bengal gram flour should be made into a sticky consistency and not hard

  2. Fry the mixture in boiling Oil and fry till the bubbles subside.

  3. You can use ready made Alu bhujia if you do not have time.

  4. I used two pinches of yellow color, but you can use Turmeric instead.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Red Lentil
  • Oil - For Frying
  • Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Salt
  • 3/4 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
  • For the Mixture:
  • 200 gms Bengal Flour
  • 250 ml Water
  • Salt
  • 2 Pinches Turmeric/Yellow color

Instructions

  1. Make a soft dough with all the ingredients used for the mixture
  2. Stuff the dough into a thin hole mold and press it into hot oil.
  3. Fry the gram which was soaked overnight on a medium flame and then increase the flame and fry they turn golden brown.
  4. Mix both the mixture and gram crushing with hand. Add Salt, Black Salt, Chilli powder, Cumin powder, mix well and store it in an air tight container.It remains fresh easily for a month.
